Chairman's Introduction

The Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust re-launched in November 2005 from the Cobham Conservation Group. We owe our genesis to a public meeting held in March 2005 when nearly 500 people gathered together to express concern about the rapidly changing face of Cobham. The meeting wanted more proactivity to try and safeguard our local heritage recognising that we of course have to move with the times.

Those present at the meeting contributed £800 towards a 'fighting' fund and John D. Wood & Co contributed a further £300 towards postage; this kept us going until November 2005 and we are indebted for their generosity at such a crucial stage and the support from so many.

Since that time we have made excellent progress, some of which has been reported in our Newsletters. This would not have been possible without the help of the previous Committee and in particular Gordon Mills, Jean Corbett and John Stephens, respectively the President, Chairman and Vice Chairman. I am delighted that all three are continuing to participate in the re-launched Trust as well as Deirdre Austin-Jolly.

During the set up period we would not have been able to move forward without the support and the commitment from David Tipping, Vice Chairman, David Taylor our historian and our respective wives, and also our Rector, Robert Jenkins.

The members of the current Committee are working diligently for which I am grateful. The encouragement from our local MP, Mr. lan Taylor has been much appreciated too, and we are grateful for the messages of support. Now we are 'legitimate' we look forward to working with our local Councillors who represent us all in the community.
