Cobham Heritage Day 2006
Saturday 9th September
Heritage Day took place as part of National Heritage Weekend on Saturday 9th September.
It was a wonderfully sunny day which started soon after 11.00am when people started trickling in to Church Street. The road had been closed off to traffic enabling various local stalls to set up and display their wares with plenty of entertainment for the children - Punch and Judy, face painting, a caricaturist and some extremely tall street entertainers!

An old fashioned ice cream stall was on hand as well as popcorn if anyone got hungry and musical entertainment was ably provided by a jazz band. Art enthusiasts were able to peruse the handiwork of the Cobham Art Group displayed along the railings and the motor enthusiasts were treated to a number of vintage cars in the car park of St Andrew’s church. |
| The church was also open to visitors as was the bell tower and heritage walks around the area were undertaken, taking in the Cobham Mill and various other places of local interest. |
| Many local groups, including the local fire service, were involved in the organisation and on the day itself which gave the whole occasion a real community spirit which was rounded off by a duck race involving approximately 2000 yellow plastic ducks along the River Mole from the Mill to La Capanna. A great success which will hopefully be repeated in 2007 on September 8th! |
