Jeep Garage/Pizza Express - Planning Objection

Picture of 20-22 Anyards RoadYou may have read in the Press that the council has received a planning application to convert the Jeep Garage and Pizza Express (20-22 Anyards Road, Cobham, KT11 2NP) into a retail area including a hot food take-away. A large canopy would be erected which would require the removal of the beautiful Lime tree outside.

Other communities like Hinchley Wood have fought successfully against this type of application and unless we object we could have one of the largest shopping areas in Cobham, other than Waitrose, devoted to Fast Food with all the unfortunate trappings these sorts of outlet bring.

Picture of 20-22 Anyards RoadIt is vital that everyone in Cobham who feels strongly about this proposal should make their objections known to the Elmbridge planning department. The initial closing date for objections is Tuesday 24th April so speedy action is necessary by email or by post quoting reference number 2007/0878.

If there is more than one adult member of your household you should object separately with your own views – this will help maximise the number of objections we are able to register. Please keep a copy of your objection letter as we fully expect that this will be re-submitted once this application is rejected!

Whilst you must decide what you believe are the grounds for objection and use your own words, the following are the areas which concern us most:-

  1. This would be totally out of place in a community like Cobham and destroy the amenity for the community.
  2. This type of outlet would be out of proportion to the neighbouring shop premises.
  3. This type of outlet would devalue surrounding shop and residential premises.
  4. There is inadequate car parking for the numbers which would use such an outlet.
  5. The lime tree should have a preservation order placed on it immediately.
