Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust

Local Plan AERC Group

As our members will know, we have been very concerned at the progress and indeed the approach of Elmbridge BC to the creation of our local plan. Our concern centres around two fundamental issues:

  1. The annual housing target for Elmbridge of 633 (9,495 homes over 15 years) laid down in the Government’s Standard Method is simply not achievable without changing for ever the nature and character of our individual settlements through massive intensification and the release of Green Belt land
  2. Our Green Belt is absolutely sacrosanct and the release of even a small part will open the floodgates to the developers as we have seen in other areas

So working with other like minded residents’ associations and civic groups we have issued the two papers (see below) under the banner of “the Alliance of Elmbridge Residents and Civic Groups (AERC)” we are now challenging all political groups in Elmbridge to support these papers. We shall then tackle all the candidates standing in the May elections to obtain their commitment to vote against a local plan that is based on the Government’s Standard Method. After the May elections we shall be similarly challenging all the councillors to reject the Standard Method for Elmbridge.

To our knowledge this is the first time that a significant number of Resident and Civic Groups have come together united over such an important single issue and we commend this to you for your support.
