Local Area Footpaths
In 2017 CCHT launched an exciting new project focusing on the Footpaths and Bridlepaths in the Cobham, Downside, Stoke d’Abernon and Oxshott area. Our goals are:
- To publicise and raise awareness of the footpaths and walks in our area
- To work with the local Councils to help prioritise maintenance and refurbishment work and where necessary enlist the help of volunteers to undertake and improve the upkeep of our footpaths.
Walking Guides
We will be creating a collection of local Walking Guides which will be publicised in the Newsletters and can be downloaded from this website via our Walking Guides page.
Our first featured walk is the lovely walk from Stoke d’Abernon, skirting the green belt Knowle Hill Park and encompassing Littleheath Common and the “Brickpit” lake. The walk can either be done as a walk in itself (very popular with dog walkers) or can connect up to Oxshott Heath and Esher Common and also to Downside via the path off Tilt Road.

Maintenance and Refurbishment
The riverside path, which runs alongside the River Mole between the Tilt/Leigh Hill Road junction and Cobham Mill was one of the Trust’s earlier refurbishment successes and is regularly used by those visiting Cobham from Stoke D'Abernon and vice-versa.
A renovation was funded by Cobham Heritage and its upkeep continues to be a regular task and expense. This year Elmbridge Borough Council (EBC) have matched from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund, spending by the Trust for further work.
Other footpaths have also been recently refurbished in conjunction with EBC using CIL monies and with the assistance of Surrey County Council. Recently overhauled footpaths include:-
Footpath No | Footpath Description |
- | Riverside path which runs alongside the river Mole between the Tilt/Leigh Hill Road junction and Cobham Mill |
FP58 | 55m section between Hogshill Lane and Leigh Hill Road |
FP59 | Cedar Road to Leigh Hill |
FP60 | Connecting French Gardens with FP59 |
FP61 | 100m section between connecting FP59 and FP62 near Leigh Place |
We will continue to review our local footpaths and work with Elmbridge Borough Council to improve the network of footpaths for the benefit of local residents.
