Riverhill Poetry Competition – ‘On the Riverbank’
The Cobham Heritage Trust, the local community and Elmbridge Borough Council have worked together to restore the riverbank at Riverhill and on the 8th May we celebrated the official opening, with the Mayor of Elmbridge cutting the ribbons. This site will also be dedicated to HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in the autumn, with another special ceremony.
To celebrate our success in working together we would like to invite Cobham residents of all ages to participate in a poetry competition. The theme will be 'On the Riverbank'. There will be four prize winning categories – 5-7 years, 8-11 years, 12-17 years and adults, to be judged by a panel of four, including Peter Owen (nephew of Wilfred Owen and President of the Wilfred Owen Association), Lady Acher (Cobham Heritage Trust), Bryony South (The Cobham Bookshop) and Lynne Randell (Riverhill Committee, Schools Liaison). Winning and commended poems will be displayed on Heritage Day, 14th September 2013 where prizes and certificates will also be presented.
Look out for entry forms at your school, The Cobham Bookshop and Cobham Library. Entry forms can also be downloaded from this website by clicking here. The Cobham Bookshop and Cobham Library will also be the collection points for your poems or you may email them together with a completed and scanned entry form to: This email address is being protected from spambots. The closing date for entries is 31st July 2013.
Winners will be contacted by telephone in August and schools notified in September. A selection of poems will be printed and for sale via the Cobham Heritage Trust once the competition has been judged.
