Keep Britain Tidy recognises Riverhill in Cobham as an award-winning green space for 2013/2014.

Riverhill in Cobham, Surrey is one of the very best in the UK – and that's official.

The prestigious national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities. The Riverhill Regeneration project passed an extensive assessment to qualify highly for the award.

The Riverhill Regeneration Project is a community-wide initiative in Cobham led by the Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust. It has transformed an area of land that had fallen into disrepair and returned it back to its former glory by creating an open space for everyone to enjoy. The Trust together with local schools, clubs, volunteers, businesses and with the help from Elmbridge Borough Council, raised £150,000 to complete the regeneration project.

Sir Gerald Acher, Chairman of the Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the first time. This award recognises and highlights that the people of Cobham are benefitting from a green space of the very highest quality. The success of this community-wide project means that many local people can enjoy a sense of pride in this wonderful achievement."

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: "Riverhill's Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers who have helped to create this fantastic place for all to enjoy."

"Quality green spaces are absolutely essential to happy, healthy communities. They are fundamental to our quality of life, whether in cities, towns or villages. That is why it is so significant that we recognise and celebrate their achievement. Congratulations and well done to all those involved."
