Cobham Heritage Day 2014 - Evening Entertainment

The Cobham Conservation and Heritage Trust is pleased to present 'Lifeboat'.

This evening performance will be performed by the Cobham Players and is a special one act play set in 1940.

Lifeboat is the true story of Bess Walder and Beth Cummings aged 14 and 15 at the time, evacuees on board the City of Benares, which was sunk by a German U Boat as it crossed the Atlantic to take children to a new safe home away from the wartime hostilities.

In an extraordinary story of survival and enduring friendship, LDF Best Actress winners Samantha Myers and Millie Hart play 12 roles.

Directed by Rodney Pearson, it incorporates music and song from the era.

After the interval Michael Rodd, formerly of BBC's Tomorrow's World, will chair a discussion, on stage, about the Play and the relocation of children to America, with Director Rodney Pearson, the Cast and a Cobham Resident who at the age of 10 travelled on a sister ship to the Benares at the same time, spending four years in America away from his family, and returning to the UK in a small aircraft carrier in 1944.

This special one night performance will take place on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 7pm for a 7:30pm start. For more details and how to get your tickets, please see the leaflet below.
